Most-capped McCay ponders Ireland future
SHIRLEY McCAY remains noncommittal over her international future as Ireland’s most-capped female player of any team sport continues to weigh up her options.
She made her 273rd Irish appearance in the World Cup final in August, playing a pivotal role in the competition in defence.
Prior to the event in London, she had said it would be her last tournament but, in the wake of the final, left the door open for a return.
Coach Graham Shaw is keen for her to continue but, three months on, McCay has yet to decide.
The remainder of the squad have been back in group training in recent weeks as they look forward to a busy 2019 with Olympic qualification on the line.
The Irish men’s World Cup preparations hit a speed bump as they fell to a polished Netherlands outfit 7-1 in their third game in Spain this week.
