Sevens star Morgan gets opportunity to impress on Wales debut
FORMER Sevens star Luke Morgan will win his first Wales cap against Scotland in Cardiff tomorrow.
The Ospreys wing has been named by Warren Gatland in his 23-man squad, with Cardiff Blues fly-half Jarrod Evans also set to earn his first Test cap off the bench.
There is also a return for British & Irish Lion Jonathan Davies, who will feature for his country for the first time since 2017.
Morgan, Wales Sevens’ all-time leading try scorer, is undoubtedly the biggest talking point in the squad, however.
The 26 year-old only made his Guinness PRO14 debut in September – the Bridgend-born player came through the Ospreys’ development pathway and made one senior appearance before joining the Sevens circuit in 2012 – but he has clearly impressed Warren Gatland.
Morgan will make his debut at the Principality Stadium alongside the experienced duo of George North and Leigh Halfpenny.
Coach Rob Howley said the debutant would “bring a point of difference to the squad”.
“It is great to reward players on form and we are looking forward to seeing Luke make his debut on the wing,” Howley said.

“He has come through the Sevens system, he will bring a point of difference to the squad and it’s a great opportunity for him. Likewise it will be good to see Jarrod from the bench and hopefully seeing some x-factor from him.
“We have created good strength in depth, especially from the summer and have a nice balance bringing seven Lions back into the team.
“We are very respectful of this Scotland team and are looking forward to what should be a great opening match.”
In total, Wales have named eight British & Irish Lions in their 23-man squad.
Jonathan Davies partners regional teammate Hadleigh Parkes in the midfield with Gareth Anscombe and Gareth Davies partnering at half-back.
Nicky Smith, Ken Owens and Dillon Lewis make up the frontthree combination, with Lewis making his first start at home for Wales.
Cory Hill and captain Alun Wyn Jones continue their successful partnership in the second-row with Dan Lydiate, Justin Tipuric and Ross Moriarty linking up to make a formidable-looking all-Lions back-row. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
