Clane as a new pin in Kildare ... and with 1.3 acres just 35km from capital

-

Back in 1995, when Hoganswood House was built on the outskirts of Clane, Co Kildare, the place was a very small town.

The census the following year put the population at 1,822.

Things have changed a lot in the decades since then. As of the 2016 census, the population of Clane stands at 7,280 – an increase of 400% in 20 years.

Clane has become a satellite of Dublin, and as it’s only 35 kilometres from the capital, it’s less than an hour’s drive to work for the many commuters who have set up home there.

A home such as Hoganswood House, Firmount West, in Clane also grants you a lot more space than you’d expect to find in any of the Dublin postcodes.

It’s set on 1.3 acres of land which include an improbably long lawn to the front, edging a treelined avenue and sheltering the place from the road.

The grounds also include a couple of outbuildings — a lofted garage and a shed — for those who are lucky enough not to have to commute.

Inside, the house itself sprawls over 3,600 sq ft on two floors, including six bedrooms on the first floor. Three of these are en suite, including the master bedroom where there’s a jacuzzi bath.

There’s also an en-suite guest bedroom on the ground floor, along with three reception rooms, a sunroom and a large kitchen with an Aga.

The reception rooms are a dining room and a living room, both with fireplaces, and a games room, and the sunroom has a gas-fired stove.

Hoganswood House is on the Prosperous Road, about 20 minutes’ walk from the centre of Clane.

It will be auctioned on November 21 at 3pm at the Glenroyal Hotel in Maynooth and has an AMV of €675,000.

The agent is Coonan Property in Maynooth, (01) 628 6128.
