Draw­ing cash: Prof­its dou­ble at Ir­ish Car­toon Saloon

PROF­ITS at three-time Os­carnom­i­nated Car­toon Saloon an­i­ma­tion stu­dios al­most dou­bled to €537,805 last year. This week it was con­firmed that Net­flix has com­mis­sioned the Kilkenny-based stu­dio to pro­duce a new fea­ture en­ti­tled ‘My Fa­ther’s Dragon’.

In Septem­ber Ap­ple bought a new an­i­mated film it is mak­ing called ‘Wolfwalk­ers’.

Car­toon Saloon Ltd re­ceived a boost last year with sales of €3.4m to a con­nected firm, Blue CAT Pro­duc­tions Ltd that re­lates to its deal with Ama­zon stu­dios for the pro­duc­tion of the ‘Pete the Cat’ se­ries.

The Ama­zon work con­trib­uted to prof­its at Car­toon Saloon Ltd in­creas­ing by 97pc to €537,805.

Num­bers em­ployed by the car­toon firm in­creased to over 80 dur­ing 2017.
