Resistance: Jordanne says senator mum Lynn taught her to fight
ACTRESS Jordanne Jones says going to protests with her mum, Senator Lynn Ruane, gave her a good grounding for her role in War of Independence drama ‘Resistance’.
Dublin-born Jordanne (18), who plays Minnie Mahon in the series, which follows on from ‘Rebellion’ two years ago, told the Irish Independent she “definitely” sees a lot of herself in her character, who is not afraid to speak up for what she believes in.
“She is quiet and polite and you see that in her, but you also see her be a rebel and do what she thinks is right,” said Jordanne.
The actress, a second-year student in film and English in Trinity College, added: “I’m like that, I am quiet but if I think something needs to be said I’ll say it. At protests I’m definitely the loudest.
“Since I was a kid, my mam would bring me to protests.
“It’s lucky for me that I can have those conversations with her and she has always made me aware that there are things we have to fight for.”
In ‘Rebellion’, Minnie entered prostitution to provide for her family.
Now, viewers see Minnie strike up a romance with Joey, a young rebel, and run guns for him and her uncle Jimmy, who is in the IRA. “Obviously it is a conflicting situation with her dad in the army but she is close to her uncle too,” said Jordanne.
