Walsh may return to face Tyrone

NEW Kerry boss Peter Keane will be forced to shuffle his pack for at least the first two or three league games through injures, club commitments and the Sigerson Cup as they prepare to face last year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists Tyrone tomorrow week.

“Jason Foley picked up a knock; David Moran will not be back from his honeymoon but though he is back the day after the first game,” explained Keane.

“Kevin McCarthy is also unavailable with a broken hand while David Clifford is also unavailable. Mark Griffin picked up a knock about a week ago but we hoped he might be OK, but we are just assessing him. Then the Crokes boys are out until after they win or exit the All-Ireland Club.”

But amid all the doom and gloom Keane confirmed that Tommy Walsh is back training and playing and could well be involved against Tyrone.

Keane also confirmed that as of now the gates of Fitzgerald Stadium will be open to the public and this will please Kerry supporters who felt annoyed with Eamonn Fitzmaurice when he shut the gates back in 2014.

Keane added that he has strengthened his backroom team led by Jason McGahan who is the new Head of Athletic Performance.

The new Kerry boss admitted that there is a big difference between his roles as an AllIreland-winning minor manager to that of being the senior boss.

“There is much more involved with being senior manager than being the minor boss.

“There is something going on all the time but I would say that there is a good group around me even within the county board where you are getting help but there is much bigger workload though I cannot quantify it.

“But it’s a huge job and you are always busy with things going on,” he added.
