Dub-Kerry players to escape bans
REFEREE Maurice Deegan’s report is expected to be critical to any potential punishments handed down to Kerry and Dublin arising out of the flashpoint that erupted following the home side’s one-point win in Saturday night’s Division 1 league game in Tralee.
GAA’s Central Competition Controls Committee (CCCC) has opened an investigation after players from both sides got involved shortly after the final whistle.
Video footage in the public domain remains inconclusive as to who the protagonists were or how the unruly scenes were sparked in the first place. But Deegan and his officials were well placed to observe what took place and may have been able to shed some light on what triggered it and how it developed.
CCCC officials also seek to determine if any members of the respective backroom teams got involved. Speculation is that players will escape bans, but both county boards can expect to face fines for their team’s involvement in the incident which came after one of the most memorable league games of recent years.
