Cain holds nerve to sink Crescent

-

CBC pulled off a thrilling secondhalf comeback at Thomond Park to beat Crescent 21-19 and set up a semi-final against Ardscoil Rís.

With his team trailing 19-15 at half-time, full-back Billy Cain converted two penalties to see the Cork side to victory over a shellshocked Crescent.

Christians were the better side in the opening quarter and were clinical in scoring two tries in their first two visits to the Crescent ’22.

John Willis scored the first off a lineout maul and that was followed up by a sensational team try finished off by Aaron Leahy.

However, Crescent powered back into the game with three tries before the break. Christians , though, were not to be denied and Cain kept his composure to slot two second-half kicks to see them home.

Ardscoil Rís booked their place in the last four after to a superb second-half display, which produced six tries, enabled them to see off Castletroy College 45-17.

Michael O’Hanrahan’s converted try gave Castletroy a deserved early advantage and Seán Madden’s penalty then put them 10-0 ahead.

Daniel Okeke’s stunning try just before half-time got Ardscoil back into the game and then Lochlainn O’Keeffe and James Horrigan went in for two tries each, while Killian Dineen and John Salmon also dotted down.

PBC registered five tries, two via Alex Kendellen in the second half, to beat Rockwell 41-9.

John Beamish’s try with four minutes remaining looked to have given Bandon victory over Glenstal at Irish Independent Park, but Taylor Gleeson touched down in stoppage time to tie things up at 15-15.
