What is a significant relevant point (SRP)?
• When answering an essay-style question, examiners
award marks for SRPs.
• Each SRP is worth 2 marks, i.e. 15 SRPs are needed to
get full marks in a 30-mark question.
• An SRP is a single piece of factual information that is related to the question being answered. One SRP is usually one or two sentences in length.
• An SRP may be awarded for pieces of information
such as: o A geographical term and its explanation o A development of a point o A statistic and a development on this.
• By looking at past marking schemes, you will also notice that SRPs can be awarded for examples and diagrams.
