In 1911, the occupant of No6 Church Avenue was Professor John Carolan of St Patrick’s College. He later moved around the corner to Upper Drumcondra Road and was dead within a decade. In 1920 two IRA men were hiding in the house when British soldiers raided and shot Carolan, who died a few days later; the fugitives escaped. No6 is at the western end of Church Avenue, near the Cat and Cage pub. It’s 904 sq ft with the three bedrooms on the first floor, two with original fireplaces. Downstairs there’s a living room, dining room and galley kitchen, and the dining room has doors to a paved garden.
