Novelist Edna O’Brien was born in Tuamgraney but in early life was not fond of the place and left as soon as she possibly could. Nor was Tuamgraney fond of her: the story goes that the local parish priest publicly burned several copies of her first novel, ‘The Country Girls’. In her youth O’Brien might frequently have passed this street-fronting 19th-century house in the centre of the village, overlooking the green. It has been extended now to 1,938 sq ft and has three bedrooms along with a kitchen, a dining room, a sitting room and a living room. There’s a rear yard with stone outbuildings that might be put to some use.
