Wicklow stars of future shine at New Ross blitz

- CLUB NOTES

WICKLOW RFC’s U-9s, U-10s, U-11s and U-12s journeyed south to New Ross RFC last Saturday morning for a south-east blitz.

For the U-9s this was the first fixture between the two clubs at this age-grade.

Both clubs fielded two teams and they played four evenly contested matches. The players all enjoyed making new connections and are looking forward to a return fixture.

One squad of U-11s travelled to New Ross and put in a great performance against tough opponents. The backs and forwards put their skills to good use to create some excellent plays.

The U-12s travelled with a largely experimental side and enjoyed a great morning of rugby.

Many of the squad’s inexperienced players had a great opportunity to gain some valuable game time and benefited greatly from the encounter.

Their confidence grew as the morning wore on and there were great glimpses of the players of the future. Their beaming faces told the whole story at the final whistle.

The coaches would like to thank everyone that made the trip to New Ross.

It is a testament to the parents and players that they are always willing to travel in great numbers to all the clubs across the south-east.

Meanwhile, Wicklow’s U-7s were keeping the home fires burning as they hosted U-7s from Greystones and New Ross at Ashtown Lane on Sunday morning. Conditions were perfect for the U-7s’ brand of chaos running rugby.

In all there were 14 teams. Just over 100 kids took part in a great morning’s rugby.
