There are lots of ways to use technology to manage your money, here and abroad, without moving bank. Here are the top ways, but if using your own bank, make sure to ask what charges apply:

TransferWi­se: Works in EU, UK, USA and Australia. You can move money abroad using App, website, iPhone or Android, linked to your debit card. Currency and exchange fees apply but they are far cheaper than banks.

Western Union: With branches in over 200 countries worldwide, you can send cash around the world for pick-up locally or pay bills in-store. Fees apply.

Post FX: From An Post, you can buy a preloaded Mastercard for using in USA, UK, Canada and Australia. Order from your local post office. Loading fees apply.

Neteller: Permits money transfer and online shopping in 22 currencies; instant if the recipient also has account. Upload fees around 2.5pc apply.

CirclePay: This app allows money transfers in 29 countries, in euro, sterling and US dollar among up to 20 friends. It’s instant and free.
