Jelic to face Harrington in ‘National’ showdown

-

WORLD Elite champion Kellie Harrington will fight for the first time this year on National Elite finals night at the National Stadium next Saturday.

The Dublin lightweight, the current AIBA World No 1 and eight-time Irish champion, entered the Elites but there was no Irish rival. Serbia-born Jelena Jelic, who boxes for Sweden, will provide the opposition.

Meanwhile, current European U-22 champion Amy Broadhurst, who lost the 2018 light final to Harrington, toppled Shauna O’Callaghan on an unanimous decision in the light-welter semi-final.

Laois feather Christian Cekiso booked his final ticket on a 4-1 split verdict over Limerick’s Myles Casey. Sean Mari, Adam Hession, and Derbhla Duffy, who’ll meet Commonwealth finalist Michaela Walsh for gold, also won, while Chloe Fleck and Donna Barr saw off Carol Coughlan and Ciara Walsh in the quarter-finals.
