Kerry Lee’s Bishops Road won the William Hill Grade Three Grand National Trial Handicap Chase back in 2016 when rated 144. There’s been a lot of water under the bridge since then and he’s now aged 11, but the 25/1 on offer for a repeat performance today (3.35 Haydock) is decent value, and I reckon he has place claims at the least from a rating of 137. He made a load of mistakes last time in a veterans’ handicap in January and was pulled up, and he unseated his rider at the third fence in a Listed handicap previously in December. But he went close off 135 here in a handicap in November, and jockey Michael Bastyan’s 5lb claim may just give him a boost.
