Man finds grenade after buying house
A LIVE hand grenade, believed to be around 100 years old, was destroyed by controlled explosion after being found by the new owners of a house.
The discovery was made on Friday by a man who had been cleaning out a recently bought house. He found what was confirmed to be a viable British Mills 36 grenade.
The ordnance, which is believed to date back to the War of Independence, was found at a house on Station Road in Lahinch, Co Clare.
Army bomb-disposal experts took the grenade to the local GAA grounds, where it was placed in the ground and covered in sandbags. A controlled explosion was then carried out.
