Welsh woes continue with all four regions outside play-off spots

-

AS IT stands, Wales won’t have a representative in the Guinness PRO14 play-offs after all four regions lost their games at the weekend.

Warren Gatland (right) may have his team on track for a Grand Slam ahead of next Saturday’s arrival of England (who are now without the injured Chris Ashton), but the health of the game below the senior side is in serious question.

Cardiff came closest with their effort at a comeback against Glasgow Warriors in a classic on Saturday, but the Scots held out to keep pace with Munster at the top of Conference A. The Warriors’ win was good news for Connacht whose hard-fought victory over Cheetahs leaves them third in Conference A, nine points behind Glasgow but four points clear of Ospreys – who slipped up at home to Ulster – and Cardiff.

Ulster’s victory was an important one, with Edinburgh beating Dragons and Benetton overcoming Scarlets in the race to join Leinster in the play-offs from Conference B.
