Ferguson inspires Royals

-

A FINAL-QUARTER rally wasn’t enough to prevent 14-man London from going down to a second defeat at Trim yesterday.

The Exiles were 16 points in arrears when Aaron Sheehan was dismissed for a second yellow card on 43 minutes.

However, they played their best hurling after that and hit their opening goal when Mark O’Dwyer netted on 52 minutes. Colin Nelson and O’Dwyer added further goals, but Meath held out.

The Royals led from the first minute when Fionn Ferguson booted to the net. Ferguson added a second goal in firsthalf added time, pouncing when a sideline cut landed short. The hosts led 2-13 to 0-5 at the break.

Meath increased their lead when substitute Eamonn MacDonnachada finished high to the net on 39 minutes.

The Royals managed just three more points after that as London took control of proceedings. But it wasn’t enough.
