Galway on song with music events

GALWAY will be ringing to the strains of Beethoven as it celebrates the great composer’s birth 250 years ago.

Musician Naomi Berrill (right) was on hand as Music for Galway launched its 39th season yesterday, with a host of treats in store.

Highlights of its 2020 programme include a Beethoven Midwinter Festival next January, a nine-day cello festival named Cellissimo in the spring, and ‘Paper Boat’, a community opera that will be staged in St Nicholas Collegiate Church next June.

The programme is part of Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture.
