Garrycastle power play

-

REIGNING champions Garrycastle were impressive Westmeath SFC winners over neighbours Athlone in Tubberclair yesterday.

Goals from Danny Reid and Richie Greene gave Athlone a 2-3 to 0-8 lead at half-time, but the holders proved they are strong contenders again, despite Dessie Dolan’s retirement, by firing over a string of quality points on the restart to win by 0-17 to 2-7.

On Saturday night, Seán Pettit’s seven points proved crucial as Rosemount edged out Castledaly by 1-11 to 2-6 in a fractious encounter in Moate.

Castledaly dominated most of the first half but still trailed 1-3 to 0-5 at the interval, Declan Mullen having brilliantly punched the ball to the net for the goal late in the half.

Two second-half goals by Aaron Nugent were not enough to turn the tide for Castledaly

St Loman’s were very comfortable winners by 5-9 to 0-10 over Tyrrellspass in Mullingar last night. Goals from Ronan O’Toole and Kevin Regan helped them to a 2-6 to 0-4 lead at half-time.

Three points on the restart gave Tyrrellspass hope but goals from sub Fola Ayorinde, Rory Sheahan, and TJ Cox saw Loman’s to their victory.
