Glen make light of red card to sound warning

-

GLEN ROVERS sounded a warning as they blitzed St Finbarr’s on a 3-20 to 0-15 scoreline on Saturday night in the opening set of Cork SHC games.

Beaten finalists last year, the Glen were the last club to win the title, triumphing in 2014 and 2015 before divisional side Imokilly claimed the last three, and they will surely be among the front-runners again.

Simon Kennefick’s goal helped the Glen to lead by 1-12 to 0-11 at half-time, despite the loss of Cork senior Robert Downey to a red card, and the young attacker scored a second goal on the resumption.

On Friday night, Sarsfields got the better of Midleton by 2-17 to 1-17 at Páirc Uí Rinn. In the same group at Mallow, Douglas overcame Ballyhea by 0-17 to 1-11. Blackrock and Newtownshandrum top Group B after wins over Erin’s Own and Bishopstown. Na Piarsaigh drew with Carrigtwohill in Group C yesterday.
