Broderick on fire for Carlow

-

TEN points from ace forward Paul Broderick were pivotal in providing new Carlow boss Niall Carew with a good start at Netwatch Cullen Park.

It was in the final minute of injurytime that Carlow snatched victory with two points from open play by Broderick and sub Darragh Murphy.

The sides were deadlocked on six occasions and by the first water break Carlow led 0-7 to 1-3, but they trailed 1-7 to 0-9 at the half-time interval.

Red Óg Murphy grabbed a Sligo goal before they netted a second following a missed short Carlow kick-out to put the Connacht men 2-9 to 0-10 clear.

Carlow hit back with a solo goal from Ross Dunphy as they hit 1-3 without reply to go in front by a point at the second water break. Sligo later clawed back level but those late points gave Carew a winning restart against a county he once managed.
