Pedestrian killed in road traff ic collision on the M50

- Ciara O’Loughlin

GARDAÍ who are investigating the death of a pedestrian on the M50 motorway on Sunday night are examining if his car had broken down or been in a minor accident shortly beforehand.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was struck by a car on the Northbound lane just before the Finglas exit at Junction 5 just before midnight.

It appears he had been driving a car just before the incident and may have had to stop after either breaking down or following a minor incident.

Gardaí are investigating if he was then struck by another vehicle after getting out of the car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been taken to the city morgue where a post mortem will be carried out.

No other injuries to others were reported.

The motorway section is fully re-opened after being closed for a period for a technical examination by forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí at Finglas are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

They have also asked for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area at the time to make their footage available to gardaí.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí at Finglas are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Finglas garda station on 01 666 7500, the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.”
