Time for anxious church-goers to reap godly rewards in safer confines of Mother Nature

- Declan Foley

I FIND it interesting to see the number of Letters to the Editor since the onset of Covid-19, by writers telling of their inability to attend mass, or, to receive communion.

Brian D McLaren in his 2015 book We Make the Road by Walking: A Year-Long Quest for Spiritual Formation, Reorientation, and Activation writes: “[Genesis and the Gospel of John] dare us to believe that the universe runs by the logic of creativity, goodness, and love. The universe is God’s creative project filled with beauty, opportunity, challenge, and meaning. It runs on the meaning or pattern we see embodied in the life of Jesus. In this story, pregnancy abounds. Newness multiplies. Freedom grows. Meaning expands. Wisdom flows. Healing happens. Goodness runs wild.”

The personal challenge facing the entire human population presently is to prevent the spread, and, incremental strength of the virus.

I don’t know the mind of God, whomsoever he/she is, but I imagine God would be more concerned that we obey the lockdown rules, as both an opportunity and a challenge to deepen our personal relationship, not just with God, but with our neighbours.

Perhaps Mother Nature has come to the end of her tether with the mad rush for money allied to the non-stop destruction of her earthly gifts to each and every human being?

Mother Nature provides us with everything we need: free, if we only take the opportunity to sow and reap.
