Salah: I want to stay with Liverpool but my future is in club’s hands

- Chris Bascombe

MOHAMED SALAH has reiterated his future is “in Liverpool’s hands” as he continues to drop hints about his wish for a new Anfield deal.

The Egyptian striker said earlier this season he was open to a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, but in the same interview opened the door for a contract extension on Merseyside.

Asked to clarify the situation ahead of Sunday’s draw with Manchester United, Salah repeated it was up to Liverpool as to whether he stays beyond the two-and-a-half years left on his deal.

“I do not know. If you ask, I say I want to stay here as long as I can, but as I have said before, it is in the hands of the club,” said Salah.

“I will always give 100pc to the last minute I am in this club and I want to win as many trophies as I can. And I want to give 100pc to the people, who show me love all the time.”

Liverpool remain three points behind Manchester United after Sunday’s 0-0 draw. Injuries to key players have had an impact over the past few weeks, with Jurgen Klopp playing the last two Premier League games without a recognised centre-back. Despite that, attention has shifted to the strikers, with Liverpool failing to score in their last three Premier League games.

“We started the season really well. Unfortunately, we haven’t done enough to win the last few games, but we can do better,” said Salah. “We just have to take a few steps back and play our game, that’s it.

“Yes, we have had injuries, but we have to deal with the situation. It is that, and not complaining, that will make us masters.” (© Telegraph Media Group Limited 2021)
