Irish men fall short in ranking of global average penis sizes

- NEIL FETHERSTONHAUGH

Ireland doesn’t measure up in a new review that reveals the average penis size around the world.

Researchers in Germany reviewed more than 40 recent studies involving thousands of men to establish a table of the average size of the male appendage.

According to the results, men in Ecuador supposedly have the biggest penises in the world, while Cambodians have the smallest.

The UK and US are not even in the 50 countries for the biggest penis size, while Ireland ranks a poorly 71st, just after Turkey, but ahead of Mongolia.

“No other topic on this website has been asked for more often than the average size of male genitalia,” WorldData.com, where the results are revealed, stated.

The team that carried out the research extracted data on average penis size from nearly 90 countries, with the measurements independently verified.

They considered the measurement of a penis to be from the root of the shaft to the tip of the glans.

These were all averaged out for each country and then converted into inches to allow for comparison between different nations.

However, scientists collected the data from studies where measurements were taken independently where possible as they found that men have a tendency to exaggerate their own results.

With Ecuadorian men having an average erect length of nearly seven inches (17.6cm), they are at least three inches bigger than those at the other end of the scale, in Cambodia where men are said to have a mean size of just under four inches (10cm).

Britain comes in 68th place with a penis size of 5.2in (13.1cm) and America is in 60th place at 5.4in (13.5cm). Australia ranked 43rd with an average size of 5.7in (14.46cm).

The European countries with the largest penis sizes overall were the Netherlands in ninth place at 6.2in, France 11th at 6.2in and Italy 19th at 6in. Ireland, at just over five inches, (12.78cm) struggles to compete.

Researchers say there is no direct connection between penis length and height but found countries with higher obesity rates tended to have smaller members.

The study also explained the difference between “growers” and “showers”.

“Around 80pc of men have a blood penis or ‘grower’ where the penis is smaller in a flaccid state,” one report reveals. “These men mainly live in colder climates. The rest live in hotter countries and tend to have ‘showers’ where the penis is already quite large.
