- COLM KEYS

Dublin have named a 40-strong championship squad that includes eight players who saw no action in the Allianz league.

Among the eight are Stephen Cluxton and Mick Fitzsimons who, with James McCarthy, are in pursuit of a 10th All-Ireland medal this summer. McCarthy only featured briefly in the first game, a defeat to Monaghan.

Cluxton and Fitzsimons have not played a competitive game for Dublin since last year’s All-Ireland final.

Dublin used 33 players in the league, including St Vincent’s Seán Lowry who is not included in the list released.

Kevin Lahiff, younger brother of Tom, features among 17 defenders listed, joining Alex Gavin (Ballyboden St Enda’s), Liam Smith and Ben Millist (both Ballinteer St John’s) and Adam Fearon and Ethan Dunne (both Skerries Harps) who also didn’t see league action.

Skerries Harps and Ballymun Kickhams are the best represented clubs, with four each.

Fearon and Dunne are joined by Greg McEneaney, currently involved with the U-20s, and Killian McGinnis as the Skerries quartet.

Captain McCarthy, John and Paddy Small and Evan Comerford represent Ballymun.

In all there are 17 clubs represented and seven with three representatives each, including county champions Kilmacud Crokes who have Paul Mannion, Theo Clancy and Cian O’Connor.

Crokes’ neighbours Ballinteer St John’s have Millist, Smith and Luke Breathnach included.

Na Fianna, Raheny, Cuala, Templeogue Synge St and Ballyboden St Enda’s also have three players each.

Six midfielders are named along with 14 forwards, all of whom played at some stage during the league.
