Bauer Media Audio Ireland has appointed Chris Doyle as the company’s permanent chief executive.

He had previously been named as interim CEO last May after former boss Simon Myciunka left the organisation’s Irish operations to become chief executive of Bauer Media Audio UK.

Bauer Media Audio Ireland owns Today FM and Newstalk, as well as regional stations such as Red FM.

Mr Doyle also held the role of group operations director for Ireland at the company for three years. He was previously chief operations officer at Communicorp Group, which Bauer acquired in February 2021.

During his time as interim chief executive, Mr Doyle led the acquisitions of radio stations iRadio in August last year and Beat 102103 earlier this year. The company also acquired media sales house Media Central last September.

“In our time spent working together, I’ve been able to witness Chris’s engaging leadership style, and his ability to inspire teams to produce their best possible work,” Bauer Media Audio president Vivian Mohr said.

“He brings with him a deep understanding of the business and its broader stakeholders, and is greatly respected for the achievements delivered by Bauer Media Audio Ireland under his stewardship,” she added.

Mr Doyle said: “It is an honour to work with such a creative and innovative team on the best media brands in the country and I am delighted to lead Bauer Media Audio in Ireland.”

He added that he would be focused on further developing the group’s “incredible connection with audiences and commercial partners at such an exciting time for audio”.

Bauer Media reported earlier this year that it had extended its weekly reach in Ireland to 2.24 million listeners.

Bauer Media Audio reaches over 61 million listeners each week through its radio, online services and podcasts. Its operations span nine countries, including the UK and Ireland.
