Matt wanted to be Doctor Hoof
FORMER Doctor Who star Matt Smith has told how he cried after learning he would never become a professional footballer.
But the 34-year-old, whose dreams of being a sportsman were shattered by a back injury, reckons he is better off as an actor.
Matt said: “One of the saddest days of my life was the day I was told I’d never be a professional footballer.
“It was the day of my history GCSE and I cried but my dad helped me through it.” Speaking to Weekend magazine, he went on: “I’m happier as an
Actor Matt Smith actor than I would have been as a footballer... I can drink more beer.”
Matt said being cast as the 11th Doctor meant he was suddenly very famous, but he was determined to lead a “normal life”. He added: “I still use the Tube and go to my local pub – probably a bit too much.”
