BIG AL CAN UPSET OLD PALS
ALVARO NEGREDO is ready to come back to haunt Manchester City – and dent their top-four hopes.
That’s the warning from Middlesbrough caretakerboss Steve Agnew, who is desperate for back-to-back wins to follow last week’s 1-0 triumph over derby rivals Sunderland. Former City striker Negredo (right), on a season’s loan from Valencia, is relegation-threatened Boro’s leading scorer with nine goals.
Agnew says City’s visit can bring the best out of the 31-year-old Spaniard. He said: “Of course, they’re one of his former clubs. “Alvaro has been terrific. He’s the top scorer for us and continues to work hard. “He’s terrific on the training ground, the top senior in the dressing room and brings all his qualities.
“He’s the one player City’s defenders will think, if he’s given time and the ball drops in and around the penalty area, is capable of scoring.
“He’s not mentioned that we’re playing City – but I’m sure he will.”
