Murdered woman is Samantha Probe into body at flat

A WOMAN who was found dead in an apartment was named yesterday as gardai opened a murder investigat­ion.

The body of 31-year-old Samantha Walsh was discovered at the Thomas Court complex in Waterford shortly after 3pm on Friday.

Her remains were taken to University Hospital Waterford for a postmortem but her injuries have not been released for operationa­l reasons.

It’s believed Ms Walsh may have been in the apartment for a couple of days before being discovered.

A man known to the victim is believed to have been found in an ill state at the building and was brought to hospital for treatment.

A Garda spokesman said: “The discovery was made when gardai were called to an apartment at Thomas Court, Thomas Street, shortly after 3pm.

“She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Garda Technical Bureau has been requested to examine the scene.

“The Office of the State Pathologis­t and local Coroner have been notified.

“An incident room has been establishe­d at Waterford Garda station and investigat­ing gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with informatio­n to contact them.”
