Ireland set to sizzle as mercury hits 20C

- BY DAVID COLEMAN

DUST off the barbecues folks – today is going to be an absolute scorcher.

After a dull, grey and dry day yesterday, Met Eireann predicts temperatures will soar to a balmy 20C this afternoon.

And the great weather is due to last until the middle of next week. One forecaster predicted: “Sunday will be a dry, fine day with sunny spells in all areas and clear, sunny skies for some.

“Highest temperatures 17 to 20 degrees in light breezes.

“Monday to Wednesday will be dry with sunshine.

“The highest values will once again be in the west of the country, with the warmest day likely to be Monday when temperatures are expected to reach 20 degrees in the west.

“The nights will be rather cold with temperatures as low as 2 degrees in the air on Tuesday night.

“Generally, lowest overnight temperatures this week will range between 3 and 6 degrees.

“The extended outlook for beyond Wednesday is less certain. Current indications suggest Thursday will see the dry weather holding but with the possibility of some light rain next Friday or over the weekend.”
