Pope blasts Mother Of All Bombs name
POPE Francis has criticised the naming of the huge US bomb dropped in Afghanistan last month.
The 21,600lb weapon, the military’s biggest nonnuclear explosive device, was nicknamed the Mother of All Bombs.
The device, officially a GBU-43 Massive Ordnance Air Blast, was dropped on a suspected Islamic State tunnel complex.
The nickname was widely used after the attack but The Pope said: “I was ashamed when I heard the name.”
He added: “A mother gives life and this one gives death, and we call this device a mother?”
His comments come ahead of a potentially awkward meeting with US President Donald Trump on May 24.
