Cop wanted over killing of boy, 15
A POLICE officer has been charged with murder over the shooting of a black 15-year-old boy, a lawyer for the teen’s family said.
Jordan Edwards had left a party and was in a car moving away from the officer when he allegedly opened fire.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of former Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver.
The statement from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department was posted on Twitter by a reporter for television station WFAA.
Oliver was fired by the force of the Dallas police department earlier this week over alleged policy violations.
The shooting took place
Jordan Edwards in a largely black and Hispanic neighbourhood.
It has stoked simmering tensions of perceived racial bias in US policing.
The Balch Springs Police Department and a lawyer representing Oliver were not available for comment.
High school student Jordan has been described by his family as a stand-out scholar and athlete.
He was struck by a bullet to the head and died.
