What’s it worth?
Q My dad sent a letter to ’70s disco band Chic to say how much he enjoyed their music and they kindly sent him an original autographed photo, a handwritten letter and a four-page leaflet. The envelope is dated September 12, 1979. I have just had the photo and letter framed and think it looks really good. Dave A Porter, via email
Chic were founded in 1976 by Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards and are considered one of the disco greats. This shows the band’s generosity towards fans. It’s a really great photo and well framed. I think it’s quite a special item and if you love disco or the band, this would be really lovely to own. If you sell, you’d probably fetch €300 – maybe more in a bidding war. Q
I have a lot of boxed James Bond figures. I also have cars and many other pieces – all boxed too. Dave A Holland, via email I don’t know which figures you have there – perhaps some original mid-1960s plastic figures made by Gilbert. They are worth €10-€20 in tidy condition and unopened. Larger pieces like the character Oddjob can fetch €300-€500. Maybe you have one of the Corgi toy James Bond Aston Martin cars? Three million were made in the 1960s, including the DB5 in 1966. It’s unusual to find one boxed and in mint condition – especially with the unopened “secret instructions packet”. The DB5S fetch €300-€600. Q
I have a set of eight Babycham glasses in perfect condition. They must be years old and I wondered if they are A collectable? Robert Turner, Norwich Collectable, yes, and a bit of an icon too. But you won’t be getting too tipsy on the proceeds if you sell. Babycham was launched in 1953 and the glasses design has been tweaked over the years, mainly with changes to its yellow Bambi-like character below the rim. Each of your glasses is worth €5 to €10, depending on condition.
