My top weeding tips

-

1. Keep on top of unwanted weed growth by removing them regularly. 2. Pull the entire weed out, not just the top and what can be seen on the surface, or they will regenerate. 3. If you are spraying with a weed killer, don’t do it on a windy day. And wear a mask. 4. Weed when the soil is moist. Quite simply, it is easier to pull out the roots. 5. Weed-block fabric will stop them growing back after their removal. Mulch over with bark chip to give it a decorative look. 6. Keep a bucket and some gardening gloves by the back door to remind you to get outside and get tidying. 7. Make sure new shop-bought plants don’t have weeds growing on the surface of their pot when you plant them – they will spread into the garden. 8. Weeds blanketing the lawn can be treated by a combined feed and weedkiller. For the odd one or two, use a spot-weeder. 9. Have a collection of tools to make the job of weeding easier – hoes for borders, a knife for paving and a sprayer for paths. 10. And finally, never let weeds go to seed. The old saying, “one year’s seeding, seven years’ weeding” is spot-on, unfortunately.
