Harry feels Brum buzz

- By NEIL MOXLEY

HARRY REDKNAPP has dropped his heaviest hint yet that he will stay on at Birmingham City saying: “I never say ‘No’ to football.”

The 70-year-old former Spurs and West Ham chief will take charge for the last of his three matches at Bristol City today with the Championship future of the Blues still at stake.

After arriving at St Andrew’s, Redknapp painted a picture of a man still in love with the game, spending most of his time watching football or being involved either with his grandson’s junior side or taking charge in charity matches.

While the three-hour commute from his Dorset home is not so appealing, Redknapp said he would be open to offers, insisting the Birmingham job is still one of the best in the Championship.

He said: “I’m not one for putting myself up for a job. If they ask me and it’s interesting, then great.

“I want to be playing a useful part.

“It’s not as if I’m chasing it. I’ll do it if I enjoy doing it. But I never say ‘No’ to football. It’s what I enjoy.

“Last Saturday was a great day. I loved every minute of it. Driving home, picking up my wife, having a plate of pasta and a glass of wine. I don’t sleep on Saturday night, my head is buzzing.

“It’s something you can’t explain to people. It’s fantastic.

“But the lows are horrendous. When you are getting beat. I get very low. There’s no in-between.

“It’s up to the owners. They may have someone else in mind. You know, ‘Harry kept them up, but let’s go and get someone else’. That’s their prerogative.”

Asked if he would consider a director of football role, he responded: “I could do, it’s a possibility.”

Birmingham’s future is in their own hands. If they beat Bristol City before a sell-out crowd at Ashton Gate, they will stay in the Championship.

He said: “We need to win the game. A draw is no good to us if the others win. If I get the same level of commitment as last week, then I’ll be pleased.”
