ATLETICO MADRID ended a tough week with a victory that guarantees them the third place slot in La Liga.

Saul Niguez struck 20 minutes from time to secure the win following Atletico’s 3-0 Champions League defeat to rivals Real Madrid in the week.

And Niguez (right) made sure Diego Simeone’s men head into the Champions League second leg on Wednesday with a slight confidence boost.

The forward latched on to a ball from Diego Godin and drilled home a left-footed shot from the edge of the box.

But Godin was then sent off in stoppage-time after picking up two yellow cards in the space of two minutes.

Simeone said: “It pleases me to see the atmosphere.

“On Wednesday we have a very difficult game. Maybe for many impossible, but not for us.”
