AGNEW’S FAITH IN GREAT ESCAPE

-

STEVE AGNEW is still confident Middlesbrough will pull off a miracle and stay in the Premier League.

Aitor Karanka’s former assistant wants the Boro job full-time and the caretaker boss knows a last-gasp survival could convince chairman Steve Gibson to hand him the reins.

Agnew (right) said: “It would be a great escape, if we could do it, but we just have to focus on Chelsea. They’re top of the Premier League, and they have some fantastic players. “It is a difficult fixture. You would have to say they look like champions. But the confidence and belief among my players has been growing in recent weeks and in the Sunderland and Manchester City games we saw everything come together.

“Those four points from six will give us plenty of hope – even going to Chelsea.”
