SUFFERING HEROES
My heart went out to Aaron Lennon when I heard of his illness at the weekend.
Yet, as much as I would like to wish him well and hope he gets the best support possible to get back to full health as soon as possible, I tend to agree with Jurgen Klopp’s words on the subject this week.
He did not make a fanfare and he said one of the problems for Aaron (left) and for any highprofile person suffering from mental health issues is people respond like they are at the scene of a car crash – they stop and watch and get their camera phones out, rather than helping.
I have known quite a few team-mates who have had mental health issues over the years, for a variety of reasons.
Some of them have been brave enough to address the subject in public, to help others.
That is more heroic than any footballing deed.
