Taliban blast hits Afghan compound

-

TALIBAN fighters drove a truck packed with explosives at a governor’s compound in an overnight attack on an Afghan city.

Police said yesterday the three-pronged assault on parts of Ghazni, on the highway linking the capital Kabul with the southern city of Kandahar, ramps up the Taliban’s offensive.

Provincial police chief Aminullah Amerkhil said two members of the security forces died while 25 Taliban fighters were killed.

He added: “The Taliban put all their pressure on Afghan security forces to take control of at least one district but we fought well and pushed them back.”
