DOYLE NOT GONE OFF THE BOIL

Laois v Wexford, Portlaoise, 2.00pm

- JJ Doyle insists Wexford haven’t shot their bolt after a terrific Allianz Hurling League campaign. Banned boss Davy Fitzgerald made a point of insisting after securing BY PAUL KEANE

promotion to Division 1A that they were now in “bonus territory”.

It drew the mind back to last year when he won the league outright with Clare but endured a dismal Championship campaign before being ousted.

Selector Doyle, who could wear the bainisteoir bib today due to Fitzgerald’s high profile suspension, insisted nobody in the camp feels the job is already done.

Doyle told Irish Sunday Mirrorsport: “That has been thrown out throughout the course of the League, that we kind of peaked for the league to get out of Division 1B. But our strength and conditioning guys would say it, and the players would say it themselves, there’s still plenty left in the tank.

“As far as we’re concerned, there’s plenty left. Whether there actually is or not, it’s like with any team, you’ll only find out when you go out for the first round of the Championship.”
