Sick Corrie star now facing heart surgery
CORONATION Street favourite Liz Dawn has been hit by a new health scare and will undergo a major operation next week.
The star, who played Vera Duckworth for 34 years, suffers from emphysema.
She is now so poorly that doctors stopped her flying to her grandson Thomas Borso’s
wedding in Italy on Friday. He married the niece of Corrie star Debbie Rush (Anna Windass).
Liz, 77, is preparing for surgery on her heart, which she hopes will help transform her life.
In an exclusive interview, she said: “At the moment I’ve got no energy, but once the operation is done, I am looking forward to being as back to my normal self as possible. I’m in very good hands, and want to thank everyone at the hospital.”
Speaking from her Manchester home last week, Liz said she was devastated to be missing her grandson’s wedding.
“Naturally I am very disappointed not to be there with them,” she said. In December 2015, she made a rare public appearance at another grandson’s wedding, when Luke Ibbetson married Nicola Oxlade.
Liz bowed out of playing Vera in 2008 after her health worsened. She first shot to fame alongside co-star Bill Tarmey – hubby Jack.
