Liner rescues sunken sailor
A SOLO yachtsman whose boat capsized in a storm was rescued by the Queen Mary 2 yesterday.
Mervyn Wheatley, 73, made a distress call after a porthole smashed in 15-metre waves.
The cruise ship was in the mid-atlantic when coastguards asked for help.
Retired Royal Marines officer Mr Wheatley’s yacht was one of three that needed rescuing. They were part of a 22-yacht race from Plymouth to the US that started on May 29.
