Pair jailed for selling chimp

-

TWO men have been given prison sentences for trafficking wildlife in the first such case brought in the Ivory Coast.

A government lawyer said the judgment “sends a signal” the crime is being taken seriously.

The pair were arrested trying to sell an infant chimp to a BBC reporter posing as the representative of an Asian buyer.

The animal is listed as endangered because numbers are in sharp decline, especially in West Africa.
