Marriage boosts your chances of surviving a serious heart attack. Spouses are more likely to buffer against heart disease risk factors, including cholestero­l and high blood pressure, says research of nearly one million adults presented at the British Cardiovasc­ular Society conference.

Not giving human papillomav­irus (HPV) vaccine to boys as well as girls is risking lives, say campaigner­s. HPV, which causes cervical cancer, also leads to oral, penile and anal cancers in men. Syphilis cases are at their highest in almost 70 years. Last year there were 5,920 diagnoses – the highest level since 1949. Public Health England says the cases are mostly linked to transmissi­on through men having sex with men.
