Not giving human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to boys as well as girls is risking lives, say campaigners. HPV, which causes cervical cancer, also leads to oral, penile and anal cancers in men. Syphilis cases are at their highest in almost 70 years. Last year there were 5,920 diagnoses – the highest level since 1949. Public Health England says the cases are mostly linked to transmission through men having sex with men.
