An antihistamine that reduces the production of histamine, which triggers allergy symptoms like itchy eyes, sneezing and a runny nose. PROS: Less likely to make you drowsy than older antihistamines. Good at controlling hayfever. Thought to be safe in pregnancy. CONS: Can pass into breast milk. Some types may contain phenylalanine, which some cannot metabolise. Side effects can include headaches.
