VERBAL IS TALK OF CURRAGH

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

VERBAL DEXTERITY took the Curragh by storm yesterday with a hugely impressive debut success in the seven furlong two-year- old maiden.

The Jim Bolger (right) trained son of Vocalised had no trouble coping with the heavy ground as he annihilated his opponents.

Kevin Manning (left) got the 8/1 chance to the front a quarter of a mile from home and Verbal Dexterity then came well clear of his rivals. At the line the winner had nine and a half lengths to spare and there could be some big days ahead for him. In the featured €50,000 handicap Son Of Rest produced a performance of some quality to defy top weight. The Chris Hayesridden colt cruised into the lead with over a furlong to run and then dealt with the effort of Patuano. That rival was getting two stone from Son Of Rest but still went down by a length and three parts.

“He won well. Sprinting is his job and that ground isn’t a problem for him,” stated winning trainer Fozzy Stack.

“He’s in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascut but probably won’t get his ground so he’ll probably be back here for a Listed race on Derby weekend”.

One who could make the journey to Royal Ascot is Johnny Murtagh’s Too Familiar who stayed unbeaten in the two-year- old winner’s race.

Niall Mccullagh pounced late on the Clodovil filly who denied the promising debut maiden winner Gasta by half a length.
