RON’S HAUL A HIGH
CRISTIANO RONALDO’S two goals against Latvia on Friday took his international tally to 73. Only two Europeans have scored more – Sandor Kocsis on 75 and Ferenc Puskas with 84. Kocsis and Puskas (right) were Hungarian. Football does not do history any more but Hungary beat England 6-3 at Wembley in 1953 and 7-1 on home soil the following year.
Once known as the Invincibles, Hungary lost, unluckily, 3-2 to Germany in the 1954 World Cup final.
On Friday night, they were beaten 1-0 by Andorra, further proof that in football, you should never be surprised at how high the highs can be and how low the lows.
