MY PERFECT SUNDAY

- By Joanna Lumley

My day would start early, at our cottage in Scotland.

It’s on a high hill so we would sit outside watching the buzzards, skylarks and hares, with a pot of coffee.

Ideally I’d have all my family around me, otherwise my darling husband.

After a simple breakfast of fruit, we would pull on our gumboots and set off with a picnic. It would be the stuff of Enid Blyton – cheese sandwiches, hardboiled eggs and chocolate. We would drink water from the stream.

Later, I’d do a spot of reading or potter, looking at the trees we’ve planted. At sunset we would sit by our fire pit and watch the shadows over the valley with a Scotch.

Dinner would be with friends from the village. I like quite simple food and have been meat-free for 40 years, so it would be Spanish omelette or pasta. Maybe some champers. We’d play Scrabble before bed or I’d write postcards.
